Our Story

​Growing up in a small town himself, from a young age, Dr. Wood had always wanted to be an optometrist.  After Graduating in 1987 from Ohio State University, he began his post residency at White Ophthalmology Clinic in Greenville, North Carolina from 1986 to 1987. He later had the privilege of practicing with 2 other clinics (Clayton Eye Center from 1987-1989 and Eye Med from 1990-1992) before eventually opening his own clinic in September of 1992 where he has served his community by providing excellent vision care.

In addition to being an extremely talented musician, Dr. Susan started her career as an Optometrist in 1985 after graduating from Ohio State University. She then went on to work with Eye Med from 1987 to1992.  She took a break from practicing in early 2000 to focus on raising their 2 lovely daughters, Olivia and Grace Wood.

In 2018, Dr. James and Susan Wood moved to Monroe after living and practicing in Gwinnett County for 30 years in order to be closer to their daughter’s school. This gave them the opportunity to discover the wonderful community of Monroe!

When Dr. Joe Dew, after 40 years of practicing in the Monroe area, decided to retire; he reached out to Dr. James and Susan Wood and chose them to be his successors. And in July of 2020, Wood Vision Center was established and has successfully carried on Dr. Dew’s legacy.
 
We are honored to serve the Walton County, as well as surrounding counties with a practice that remains true to our values and philosophy of providing exceptional care and service to our friends and neighbors!
